- Research and Book a Moving Company: At this point, you need to decide whether you will move on your own or hire professional movers. Choosing the right movers should be approached responsibly. Get several quotas, compare amongst yourselves and choose the best!
- Create a Moving Binder: Make a dedicated moving binder to hold all your moving-related documents.
- Notify Schools and Obtain Records: If you have children who will be changing schools, notify their current schools and ask for records to be transferred.

📦 Six Weeks Before the Move
- Order Packing Supplies: Start gathering packing materials: boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, tape, and markers. Possibly protective corners, fillers. Read the full packing guide for more information.
- Start Packing Non-Essential Items: The first things you should pack first are things you rarely use (logically). Seasonal clothes, books, decor items, etc.
- Label Your Boxes: Label each box! Identify the contents and then the room to which it belongs.
- Change Your Address: Submit a change of address form to the post office. This will ensure that mail is delivered to your new home.
🔑 Four Weeks Before the Move
- Notify Important Parties: You must inform your bank, insurance provider, and other relevant entities about your upcoming move.
- Arrange Utility Transfers: Don't forget to disconnect services at your old home! This includes water, electricity, gas, internet, and cable.
- Plan for Pets: Pets? Moving with them requires a special approach. Prepare for the move by researching online or consulting a veterinarian to make the move comfortable for them.
- Pack Room by Room: Start packing one room at a time. Yeah, it's better to start now. Start with the pantry, end with your living space.
🛠️ Two Weeks Before the Move
- Finalize Moving Day Details: Confirm the date and time with your moving company.
- Prepare an Essentials Box: Prepare a special box with the things you will need on the first day after moving in: toiletries, a change of clothes and basic kitchen utensils.
- Service Your Vehicle: If you're moving a long distance, get it serviced to avoid problems on the road.
- Return Borrowed Items: Don't forget about the things you borrow! Return them to the owner before you move in.

- Disassemble Large Furniture: Disassemble furniture items to prepare them for moving.
- Clean and Defrost the Fridge: It's time to clean up your fridge! Throw away perishables, defrost the freezer compartment.
