How the clock works
3-hour minimum
Every local move starts here.
15-minute increments
After the minimum you're billed to the quarter-hour — never rounded up to the next hour.
30-minute minimum travel time
Included within the 3-hour minimum: 15 minutes for the crew to reach you and 15 minutes to return.
What the hourly rate includes
- The crew, the truck, fuel, tolls and mileage
- Moving equipment — dollies, two-wheelers, furniture pads, shrink wrap and tape
- Basic disassembly and reassembly (beds and other furniture, where it fits the move)
- Basic liability coverage
There's no separate equipment charge and no separate stair fee.
What can add to the cost
Because the move is hourly, anything that adds time or handling affects the total. The common factors:
- Stairs, long carries from the door to the truck, and elevator wait times (no stair fee — but stairs add time).
- The overall size of the move and the crew it calls for.
- Heavy or specialty items — pianos, safes, antiques, oversized or marble-topped furniture, glass items, gym equipment, and anything over about 200 lbs — which may carry an additional fee depending on access and crew needs and overall move scope.
- Packing, packing materials, extra stops, and storage stops, which are separate from the moving rate and must be included in the confirmed move plan.
How many movers do you need?
The right crew size depends on how much you're moving and how hard it is to reach — stairs, elevators, walking distance to the truck, and any heavy items. A larger crew costs more per hour but often finishes faster, which can lower the total. WellKnown recommends a crew size from your inventory and access and confirms it with you before the move. For larger or more complex moves, that may include a virtual or in-person estimate.

What's a COI?
A Certificate of Insurance is a document some property managers require before move day. It confirms coverage is in place and names the building as additionally insured for your move.
Remember: There is no fee for a COI. Preparation and building approval can take time, so request it as early as possible before move day.

We confirm your inventory, access (stairs, elevators, parking), and any special items, then recommend a crew size and explain what's included.
Your part: Share a complete inventory, both addresses, access details, and any heavy, fragile, or unusual items. Tell us if anything changes before move day.

Schedule and confirm
We book your date and confirm the plan, including a move-day arrival window, such as 8:00–8:30 a.m. The movers call approximately 15 minutes before they arrive.
Your part: Review the details, stay reachable, reserve any elevator, loading dock, or parking, and send building or COI requirements early.

Protect and load
The crew wraps and pads your furniture, handles basic disassembly where needed, and loads the truck using dollies and two-wheelers.
Your part: Unless packing service was added, have loose items boxed and labeled, keep walkways clear, set aside valuables and essentials, and point out fragile items before loading.

Transport
Your belongings travel in a WellKnown truck driven by the same crew — fuel, tolls, and mileage are already in your rate.
Your part: Stay reachable, make sure access at the destination is ready, and arrive in time to let the crew in.

We unload, reassemble what we disassembled, and place items in the rooms you point out — not just inside the door.
Your part: Be present to direct placement, check the rooms and truck before the crew leaves, report any concerns, and complete payment when the job is finished.

Local moves are hourly, so the total depends on time.
To keep it predictable, your written estimate sets out your rate, the 3-hour minimum, the 15-minute increments, and the 30 minutes of travel time included in the minimum. The factors that add time (stairs, long carries, heavy items, and packing) are spelled out in the pricing section above.
You receive a written estimate with an expected time range and expected price. If the job is trending longer than estimated, the movers call you during the move.
Furniture is wrapped and padded on every move, and basic liability coverage is included.
If something is damaged anyway, you submit a claim with photos, your move date, the addresses, and a description of the item — keep the damaged item and its packing until the review is done.

Kimmi and Alex were amazing!! I had other friends who moved around similar times as me and they used a different moving company but they had horrible experiences. Kimmi and Alex handled everything and made this move a breeze. A downside for me was the large window of time when they could arrive and start the move, but that's just because I love a tight schedule so it is no reason not to still give y'all 5 stars. As a girl who lives in Philly without any family, Kimmi and Alex handled my things with care and were better than if my family was moving my things. They unfortunately were unable to mount my TV at my new apartment due to not having a tool to check for electrical, but I don't mind because I don't even have my wifi set up yet so I can't use it anyway. I could not recommend WellKnown Moving Co more! When it comes to moving in Philly, based off my friend's experience with their moving companies, WellKnown Moving Co is the only way to go!

My partner and I moved from Boston to NYC on August 1st and we couldn’t have asked for better service from both sets of movers. They were communicative, assembled our furniture with no fuss, and were efficient. I’d use them again for any interstate or cross country moves! Only thing to be aware of is checking your contracts thoroughly and often. There were a couple times where pricing changed with no notice, but it was quickly rectified by WellKnown staff.
We moved from East Boston to Manhattan NY, and we could not complain at all. They were on time, kind, incredibly careful with our belongings. Easy to book and communicate with and affordable. Would recommend again and again.
