No Stress Move MD to NY I cannot give Ismael and his team at well known a better review. Professional team, planning, packing and moving. Every time I tried to help, I was told “we got that don’t worry.” Thank you so much and will recommend/use again!
I cannot recommend WellKnown enough. The team arrived early, packed quickly, and graciously moved all of my things into my new 5th floor walkup without a single complaint.

VERIFIEDreal review
Because your move goes from Illinois into Wisconsin, WellKnown Moving prices and dispatches this as a long-distance, interstate relocation — not a local move. That distinction changes how the move is priced and regulated, and we cover both below.
Here is what the rate covers, so you can see the work before you commit to it:
- Loading and unloading by WellKnown's own crews
- Basic furniture disassembly and reassembly (beds are covered; other pieces as needed)
- Furniture wrapping and blanket protection
- Moving equipment, transportation, fuel, and tolls
- Basic liability coverage
- Room-by-room delivery at your Milwaukee address
No hidden fees are built into that rate. A few services are confirmed in your estimate rather than assumed automatic:
- Packing and unpacking — full or partial, using materials we provide or your own.
- Storage — short-term or long-term, which is worth flagging if your Milwaukee place isn't ready on delivery day.
- Specialty or heavy items, extra stops, or labor-only help — available when confirmed in the plan.

How long the 90-mile I-94 drive from Chicago to Milwaukee takes
The drive from Chicago to Milwaukee is about 90 miles, almost entirely on I-94 heading north through the Midwest corridor.
Under normal conditions, expect roughly 1.5 to 2 hours of driving time. Add margin for reality: Chicago rush hour, summer weekends, and construction can push it to 2.5 hours or more. The route runs past Evanston as it leaves the Chicago area and through Kenosha before reaching Milwaukee, so most delays show up on the way out of the city rather than on the open stretch.
For a household move, drive time is only part of move day. Loading at the origin and unloading at the destination usually take longer than the highway leg itself, so the truck being "on the road for two hours" is not the same as a two-hour move.
Truck parking permits for a Chicago move (CDOT vs ward signs)
This is the part most movers skip, and it's the part that gets trucks ticketed or towed. Parking rules differ at each end, so handle them before move day — not when the crew is circling the block.
In Chicago, a ward courtesy sign is not the same as a permit. An enforceable reservation comes from a CDOT temporary no-parking / tow-zone permit. Ward courtesy signs rely on neighbors cooperating and are not legally enforceable, which means a car parked in your spot may not be ticketable. The CDOT permit is the one that actually holds the space.
| Chicago (origin) | Milwaukee (destination) | |
|---|---|---|
| What reserves the space | Enforceable CDOT temporary no-parking / tow-zone permit | Temporary "No Parking" signs arranged through DPW |
| Ward / courtesy signs | Not legally enforceable | — |
| Large-truck restriction | — | Trucks over 21 feet barred from standard overnight street parking |
| Lead time | Arrange in advance | About 5 business days' advance notice for temporary signs |
| Extra risk | — | Alternate-side parking rules, especially in winter |
Milwaukee DPW rules for the truck at your new address
At the Milwaukee end, the Department of Public Works bars trucks over 21 feet from standard overnight street parking, and temporary "No Parking" signs for a move generally need advance notice — plan on roughly five business days. Watch alternate-side parking rules too, especially in winter, when they can affect where the truck can legally sit while it's unloaded.
If your building requires a Certificate of Insurance (COI) for the elevator or loading dock, WellKnown can issue one when it's needed. Give us the permit and COI details early, and we plan the crew and truck around them instead of discovering the problem on move day.
Why crossing the IL-WI line makes this a federally regulated move
Because your move crosses from Illinois into Wisconsin, it's a federally regulated interstate move under the FMCSA — not an intrastate or local job. That matters for how you're protected.
A few things to know:
- Licensing: Interstate movers must be registered with the FMCSA and hold a valid USDOT number.
- Paperwork: Movers are required to give you a written estimate and the FMCSA booklet, Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move.
The FMCSA 110% rule and your written estimate
- The 110% rule: On a non-binding estimate, a mover cannot demand more than 110% of the estimated cost at delivery. WellKnown prices long-distance moves as a binding flat rate instead, so the price you approve in writing is the price — but it's worth knowing the federal protection exists either way.
WellKnown Moving is licensed, insured, and FMCSA-compliant.

A Chicago-to-Milwaukee move typically costs between $1,800 and $4,200. Most one-bedroom moves average $1,800–$2,400, two-bedroom moves average $2,400–$3,300, and three-bedroom moves average $3,200–$4,200.
These are typical average ranges for the approximately 90-mile interstate move, not guaranteed prices. Your exact cost depends on how much you are moving, whether you need packing services, and the access conditions at both addresses.
Stairs, long carries, elevator delays, extra stops, specialty items, and difficult truck parking can increase the price. Moving during summer, at the end of the month, or on a weekend may also cost more because those dates are in higher demand.
WellKnown Moving calculates your binding flat rate after reviewing your inventory, addresses, access details, and preferred moving date. For example, a one-bedroom apartment with elevators and reserved parking may cost close to $1,800, while a furnished three-bedroom home requiring packing, stair carries, or extra labor may cost closer to $4,200.
Your written estimate includes loading, transportation, fuel, tolls, furniture protection, basic disassembly and reassembly, unloading, and room-by-room delivery. Optional packing, storage, specialty-item handling, and additional stops are priced separately when requested.

These are the lowest rates we have booked on this route — best case: flexible dates, shared truck space, easy access at both ends. Your price is set by your own inventory, access, stairs and dates, so most quotes come in above these numbers. Only the written quote we send you is binding.

Thanks to Alex, Anvar, Artem and Ilya our move went off without a hitch. They were professional and efficient. What hard workers! I highly recommend this company in making your move!
BEWARE!!>.I believe that this company is an AI-generated website wrapper, functioning like Uber. They contract your move out to inexperienced people. Two people showed up in a U-Haul truck much too small for our move. The move was severely delayed, far beyond our quote, because they were unprofessional and showed up with inadequate equipment, causing the price to skyrocket. They showed no care for our furniture, damaging almost every single piece we owned, some beyond repair. They repeatedly cursed and screamed in a different language during the move. Once they left, we filed an insurance claim right away for the extensive damage to our property and to both buildings. It took two weeks to even get instructions from them on the claim. It has now been forty days of silence. We cannot get written acknowledgment of the claim.
Very professional service, timely and carefully executed work. Will definitely recommend
Elvin and his team moved us from the Houston area to the Dallas area. They were timely and professional throughout the process. They wrapped and protected our furniture better than movers I’ve used in the past. Highly recommend WellKnown Moving Company.
Why people pick WellKnown for this route
A local company, not a broker
Years out of Chicago, running the Milwaukee, WI corridor every week — dispatched by people who know both ends.
A fixed price, agreed up front
Quoted flat-rate with no hidden fees — full service, or just the heavy lifting, shaped to your budget.
Homes, offices, and the awkward stuff
Apartments, houses, storefronts, and specialty equipment all move on the same contract.
Short-notice moves
Closing moved, lease fell through, job starts Monday — if we have a truck on the corridor, we’ll take it.
The most common fear with an out-of-state move is the broker who takes a deposit and disappears. Here's how to tell the difference before you hand anyone money.
A broker sells your job to whichever carrier picks it up — you often don't know who actually shows up with the truck. A direct carrier does the move with its own people and equipment. WellKnown is a licensed mover, not a broker: every move is staffed by WellKnown's own employees, dispatched from its own yards, in its own trucks. You can read WellKnown Moving customer reviews to verify.
Use these checks on any company you're considering:
- A real USDOT number you can look up.
- A written estimate — a legitimate mover puts the price in writing.
- Own crews, not a subcontracted stranger.
- No demand for a large upfront deposit before you've seen a written estimate.
On deposits, here's the honest version: WellKnown's local moves need no deposit, and long-distance moves take an approximate 10% deposit, refundable per policy. That's different from a broker asking for a big payment upfront with an unfriendly refund policy — but it's not "zero deposit," and anyone promising that on a long-distance move is worth a second look.
Not sure who you're actually talking to? Talk to a licensed mover — call us and confirm you're dealing with a carrier, not a middleman.
