Pickup in Chicago may involve curb-space coordination, a freight-elevator appointment, a loading dock, or a Certificate of Insurance. San Diego presents a different set of concerns, including commercial-truck rules, downtown vehicle-length restrictions, alleys, gates, HOAs, and reserved delivery windows. In between, the likely I-55, I-44, I-40, and I-15 corridor takes several legal driving days. A passenger-car schedule does not apply to a loaded moving truck.
Your written estimate is a binding flat rate based on the inventory you disclose, access at pickup and delivery, timing, and the services you choose. Before booking, tell your coordinator about stairs, elevator limits, long carries, restricted doors, bulky or fragile pieces, packing needs, and any storage gap. Changes to the inventory, access, or service scope need to be approved and documented.

An in-house, background-checked crew arrives with the truck and standard protective materials. A designated lead mover is accountable for loading, transport, and delivery coordination. You can use the customer portal to keep your inventory and move details together; the more accurate that information is, the better the coordinator can prepare the flat-rate estimate and access plan.
Planning begins with an accurate inventory and a review of both properties. The Chicago team confirms the crew, equipment, curb or dock approach, elevator timing, COI requirements, and furniture preparation before pickup. The lead mover coordinates the route and arrival while the shipment is in transit. Before delivery, you need to confirm that the San Diego property is available, provide keys or gate codes, reserve required building access, and identify the person who can approve room placement.
The route covers approximately 2,077 miles. A passenger vehicle may cover that distance in about 30 hours, but a loaded moving truck needs approximately 36 driving hours before loading, unloading, inspections, fueling, breaks, and normal route delays are added. The FMCSA hours-of-service limits make same-day delivery impossible. The normal planning range is 4–6 business days from pickup, with pickup counted as Day 1. Your move coordinator confirms the specific written delivery window in the flat-rate estimate. Weather, road restrictions, building appointments, or approved scope changes can affect that window.

The city restricts alley parking except during active loading or unloading, and heavy commercial vehicles may be present in residential areas while completing a nearby service call. Trucks longer than 24 feet also face time restrictions in the Central Traffic District. Before delivery, find out whether the property has an HOA, gate, concierge, loading dock, elevator reservation, COI requirement, parking-permit district, meter, steep approach, or limited truck clearance. A temporary residential parking permit does not reserve curb space, so your coordinator still needs complete access details and a delivery contact who will be available.

We develop a customized long-distance moving plan and determine the timing of the move. At this stage you need to decide whether you are doing the packing yourself or using our professional packing service. If you need additional services, we’ll discuss them during the call.
On the appointed day and time, we arrive at the location in Chicago. If packing is included, we can do it on moving day or one to several days in advance. We recommend that the customer be present during this stage.
Then we move straight to the final location in San Diego or stop at the storage facility, if this service has been purchased. We carefully unload all your belongings, place items in the agreed locations and reassemble the furniture. If arranged, we help unpack all items.
After the move, we’re available to answer questions and provide support. If anything is missing or damaged, contact us as soon as possible and we’ll work with you to resolve the issue.

Shipment size matters, but so do packing, bulky or fragile pieces, stairs, elevator and dock availability, carry distance, curb or truck access, delivery appointments, and storage. The table is a planning aid. The binding written estimate controls the booked move.
Consider two one-bedroom moves on the same route. A packed shipment collected through a reserved Chicago loading dock and delivered through a reserved San Diego freight elevator can fall toward the lower part of the range. Add a Chicago walk-up, extensive packing, a long carry, or a restricted San Diego delivery appointment, and the work and coordination increase. The flat-rate estimate may therefore fall higher even though the mileage is unchanged.
The standard flat rate includes the in-house crew, truck, fuel, tolls, mileage, loading, transportation, unloading, room placement, standard furniture disassembly and reassembly, quilt pads, shrink wrap, door and floor protection, and Basic Released Value Protection.
