Skilled and Prepared Movers

Our team is made up of trained staff. Each job is managed by a lead mover with at least three years of experience in long-distance moving. We use strong tools and equipment to keep your furniture and valuables safe—including things like pianos, fragile items, and electronics.

Services That Fit Your Move

Every move is different. Before moving day, we’ll go over what you need—how many boxes, what needs to be packed, or if you have special requests. If you just want us to move your furniture, or you want to save money by sharing the move with another customer, we’ll find a way to make it work.

Clear Flat-Rate Pricing

We charge a fixed price based on the trip and the details of your move. You won’t be charged extra for stairs, a few extra items, or small changes. Large or heavy items like pianos may cost a bit more. To reserve your date, a deposit is needed—but if you cancel two weeks ahead, we’ll refund it. Learn more about pricing.

💡 Tip: If you’re moving into central San Francisco, getting a moving truck permit ahead of time can help you avoid tickets and save time.

About San Francisco

Once you arrive, there’s a lot to see. San Francisco is known for the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island, and neighborhoods like Haight-Ashbury and the Mission. If you enjoy the outdoors, try a walk at Lands End or a visit to Dolores Park. For fun in the evening, check out a rooftop bar or a jazz club like The Royale.

Like many big cities, San Francisco has some downsides—narrow streets, hills, and limited parking. But the public transportation system is one of the best in the country. If you want more space or lower rent, places like Berkeley, San Mateo, or Walnut Creek are good options just outside the city.

Just had Arthur, Alex and Miras moce my apartment in west Philly. Everything went swimmingly and they’re fast. Highly recommend.

Kimmi and Alex were amazing!! I had other friends who moved around similar times as me and they used a different moving company but they had horrible experiences. Kimmi and Alex handled everything and made this move a breeze. A downside for me was the large window of time when they could arrive and start the move, but that's just because I love a tight schedule so it is no reason not to still give y'all 5 stars. As a girl who lives in Philly without any family, Kimmi and Alex handled my things with care and were better than if my family was moving my things. They unfortunately were unable to mount my TV at my new apartment due to not having a tool to check for electrical, but I don't mind because I don't even have my wifi set up yet so I can't use it anyway. I could not recommend WellKnown Moving Co more! When it comes to moving in Philly, based off my friend's experience with their moving companies, WellKnown Moving Co is the only way to go!

Did a short move (under a mile) but with a lot of things. Tyler and Alex were super prepared, knew exactly how to pack the things I listed in advance, and got everything done quick as can be. I've been very stressed out over moving, and they helped everything go incredibly smooth!

Nagiz and Kurmanbek were so helpful and amazing!!!!!! They did it so quick too.

Nagiz and Kurmanbek did a great job, everything went quick and they took great care of our items. Would definitely recommend.

Nagiz and Kurmanbek were incredible! Kind, respectful, quick, and responsible. 10/10 would recommend you anyone!

Adam and Tim were absolutely amazing. They took care of our move from Philly to New York. They communicated through every step, were efficient, professional and accommodating. Highly recommend. Thank you!

Adam and Miras were phenomenal and so quick.

Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about cost, timing, and what San Francisco, CA is actually like once the truck is unloaded. No fine print games.

What additional costs does Wellknown have?

Moving to San Francisco with us ensures that your moving plan includes all the essential costs required by the movers. There's no need to worry about separate charges for the truck, tools, furniture assembly or disassembly, or even moving heavy items – it's all covered. We also offer flexibility with additional services: you can supply your own packing materials, or we can provide them. Plus, if you prefer, we can handle packing for specific items only. Visit our pricing page to learn more!

What do I need to do before calling Wellknown?

Make a list of special items (or just memorize them) that movers need to pay attention to. First of all, these are heavy items (e.g. a piano, a bed, a big dresser). We need to know at least the approximate dimensions and weight. In the second place are fragile and valuable items, antiques, paintings, TV set, etc. This will help us to be better prepared. We also recommend that you clearly define whether you need additional services. If you are not sure yet, we will be happy to advise you.

What is the cheapest day to hire movers?

The cheapest days to hire movers are usually weekdays, especially Monday through Thursday. Prices tend to rise on Fridays, weekends, and during the beginning or end of the month when more people are moving. If you can schedule your move during the middle of the week and middle of the month, you’ll likely pay less.

How much money do I need to move to San Francisco?

How much you’ll need depends on where you're moving from, how much you are bringing, and your living plans. Here’s a simple estimate:

Moving costs: Around $3,000–$7,000 for a move across the country (for example, Philadelphia to San Francisco).

First month’s rent + security deposit: Renting in San Francisco usually means paying the first month’s rent plus a deposit—expect about $4,000–$7,000 upfront (a typical 1-bedroom costs about $2,500–$3,500 per month).

Other costs: Setting up your new place (utilities, furniture, groceries, transportation) could add another $1,000–$2,000.

Altogether, you should plan for about $8,000–$12,000 to cover your move and your first few weeks in San Francisco.

How much to tip movers?

A simple guide is to tip about $5–$10 per mover per hour or 10–20% of the total move cost.

For example:

If your total move cost is $2,000, a tip of $200–$400 for the whole team is a good range.

For smaller moves, people often tip $20–$50 per mover.

Always base your tip on how good the service was—if the movers work hard and handle your belongings with care, it’s nice to show your thanks with a tip.
