About Us

About Our Raleigh Moving Company

I contacted numerous movers in the area for a small move and Well Known was the best choice out there. They booked this move with only one day notice and I had a quote in minutes. Ruslan and Vlad were great, very professional. Pricing was good, no hidden fees and they got the job done quick. I’d definitely use these guys again.

Moving a piano in Raleigh isn't just heavy lifting; it's also planning, protecting, and being careful. WellKnown Moving has trained crews, the right tools (piano board/skid, professional dollies, liftgate trucks), and procedures that follow building codes to piano moving in Raleigh and the rest of the Triangle. We plan routes, protect doors and floors, coordinate COIs and elevator windows, and set up hoist and crane solutions with trusted partners when access requires it. WellKnown safely move your piano, whether it's a baby grand, an upright, a player piano, or an organ, and set it up so it can get used to its new home and be tuned.

Piano Types We Move (and How We Handle Them)

  • Grand & Baby Grand (4'11"–9'): Take off the legs and lyre, mount the board and skid, wrap the pad and strap systems, control the tilts, transport the liftgate, reassemble, and put it back together.
  • Uprights (spinet, console, studio, full upright): pad-wrap, secure strapping on professional dollies, careful stair navigation, door and wall protection.
  • Specialty: player pianos, digital pianos, antique/rare pianos, organs. We offer better protection, optional crating, and electronics considerations.

Access Problems We Fix

  • Stairs and tight turns: landing strategies, spotters, and door removal when needed; fees for steps, landings, and long carries are clearly stated.
  • High-rises and condos: COIs were issued quickly, elevators were padded, dock schedules were set up, and security desk procedures were followed.
  • Balcony/window moves: When stairs or elevators are unsafe or impossible to use, use hoist/crane plans to move balconies or windows (with licensed operators).
  • Downtown logistics: loading windows and parking problems in places like the Downtown/Capitol District, Glenwood South, Warehouse District, North Hills/Midtown, Brier Creek, Five Points, and Village District.

Transport and Protection (What Keeps Your Piano Safe)

  • Pad-wrap and stretch for the finish or cabinet
  • Piano board/skid and professional dollies to help with control and balance
  • Strap systems and tie-downs for liftgate box trucks
  • Protection for doors, corners, and floors (masonite/ram board, elevator pads)
  • Weather covers and handling that takes the climate into account to lower humidity and temperature shock

Climate & Storage

It's true that North Carolina has a lot of humidity. We keep dwell times to a minimum while loading and unloading, and we offer climate-controlled storage for both short and long periods of time for staging, renovations, or moves with a time gap. After you move, give yourself 2 to 3 weeks to get used to it before you tune.

Moving Pricing & Estimates

Piano moving pricing depends on the type and size of the piano, the stairs and landings, the distance, the long carries, the scheduled after-hours/weekends, and whether a hoist or crane is needed.

  • Quote styles: hourly + access fees for local moves, or a not-to-exceed plan; flat-rate only for long-distance.
  • Clear line items: board/skid, stair/landing, long carry, hoist/crane team, mileage/zone, storage, and valuation options.
  • Fast next step: request a free on-site or video survey so we can confirm access, plan protection, and give you an accurate, written quote.

Service Area: Raleigh & The Triangle

We serve Raleigh, Cary, Apex, Morrisville, Garner, Knightdale, Wake Forest, Rolesville, Holly Springs, Fuquay-Varina, Durham, Chapel Hill, RTP, and Clayton. We plan for parking in downtown areas and HOA/condo move rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Cost depends on piano type (upright vs. baby grand vs. concert), stairs/landings, tight turns, distance, long carries, schedule (after-hours/weekend), and whether a hoist/crane is required. We’ll complete a free on-site or video survey and provide an hourly estimate with clearly listed access fees—or a not-to-exceed plan for complex access. Flat-rate quotes are available only for long-distance moves.

Yes. For grands, we take off the legs and lyre, wrap the cabinet in padding, mount the body to a piano board or skid, secure it with straps, and use a liftgate to load it. When we deliver, we put everything back together, put it where you want it, and do a final check for protection.

We plan for stairs and tight spaces by using landing strategies, spotters, and taking down doors if necessary. We give a COI for condos and high-rises, pad elevators, and set up dock and elevator windows with the building. Your quote will show you the step/landing and long-carry fees right away.

We hire licensed operators to move things with a hoist or crane when stair and elevator routes aren't safe or possible. Before we set up a time, we'll check access, get permission, coordinate timing, and give you a detailed, itemized price.

Moves can change the tension of the strings a little. Give the piano 2 to 3 weeks to get used to it before tuning. We are aware of the weather when we transport things, and we also offer climate-controlled storage for renovations, staging, or gaps in time. If you ask, we'll be happy to recommend local tuners.
